Farmville collections are a great way to earn extra XP and coins as well as helping your neighbours out. The great thing is you can get them very easily just by performing the usual day to day tasks on your farm.

By harvesting trees and fields, ploughing and fertilising your neighbours crops you can simply pick up a collectable item. This includes your animals. It’s easy. In addition by keeping an eye on your newsfeed regularly you can pick up a collectable item that your friends or neighbours share with you. I find this handy because there is always one item or two in each line of collections that are difficult to get so it’s an added opportunity. Both options are not hard to do.

When you have collected a row of items in one collectable area such as feathers, bugs, country kitsch and so on you can trade them in for rewards like XP, coins or fuel. As soon as you get a collection you can trade them in and start again ort you can keep around 10 of each item and keep collecting until you get more collections. You will have the chance to post on your news feed after you trade so that your neighbours can gain one of the items in that collection list. If you need a particular item to get a while collection and are having trouble finding it you can request it from your neighbours who can gift it to you. The item in the gift list changes from time to time.

There are 5 collection lists currently and are butterflies, feathers, gardening tools, country kitsch and bugs. Some of the items are uncommon or rare so it pays to keep and eye on your neighbours feeds. For example the gardening tools collection you can gain gloves for giving gifts, shears and cultivator for fertilising your neighbours crops, trowel for ploughing , twine for harvesting sheep and pruning saw for harvesting trees.

As soon as you put that one horse in that was at least 38% ready, your stable will be ready to harvest. You can do this again and again depending on how many horses you keep out that are 38% or higher. When you put the one in that is 38% ready then put the ones back in that are 0% that you just took out from your earlier go so you don’t use up the ones that you can use (those that are 38% or higher) to harvest your stable again. That wonderful thing about this tip is that you don’t need to wait for your horses to reach the 100% ready mark which certainly makes it all a lot less tedious or time consuming. You’ve got to love that! This will get you to your Horse Power ribbon quickly and your Arborist or Farmhand ribbons faster including 100+ XP that goes with them.

Why be a boring farmer and simply have a farm like everybody else. The game is still fun to play regardless of how it looks I guess but it can look fantastic by following just a few easy steps and using a bit of optical trickery to make it appear very unique and startling in comparison to all the regular farms. I spend as much time beautifying my farm into various sections, themes and colours so to me the appearance is important. Truth is I’m competing with my neighbours to have the best looking farms that other people comment on.

To create a 3D farm you can use hedges, hay bales or fences. You can have two, three and four tiered properties just by placing these items in a particular way to create the illusion of high or stacked fences, bales or hedges. Using arches can also enhance the look of stairs climbing up through the tiers. I use fences predominantly and by simply putting a few fences in a line and then putting some fences behind the front fences and a little off centre it can look as though they are being stacked. My first level is simply one fence and then to make it appear as though there is another level next to it I do the same but add another fence behind them, then for the next tier I add yet another fence so that there are three high and then another of four fences high (or in reality just behind the ones in front and a little off centre). I use hedges and place them in the same fashion to look like stairs going up with the arches on what appear to be on each separate level. Place trees and live stock on each level and perhaps a house or barn or large structure on what appears to be the top level. It takes a bit of practicing to get it looking just the way you like it but its fun and looks really effective. They don’t have to be wide areas; it depends on the size of your farm. To create a feeling of depth you can insert hay bales in between the fence at the front and then the one just behind it. Your farm will take on a whole new look and its very effectual.

Making the best of every inch of space counts on FarmVille. Every player knows that. It’s not always an option to expand your property at will so you need to make do with what you have. Some trees are worth their weight in gold. Others are fairly useless when it comes to making you good XP and coinage. Get your neighbours to gift you trees that yield the best. You can look them up for best harvest return and a couple of these include banana palms and date trees which also don’t have low full boughs that block your other trees or crops.

Wouldn’t it be good to place these trees in between your plots without having to make any space between them? which is what you normally have to do. The caper is this and you need to do this relatively quickly. Go to your gift box and click on it. Just before it opens go to a neighbour’s picture and click on visit their farm. While your gift box is opening your neighbours farm should be loading. Pick a banana or palm tree for example from your gift box and after your neighbour’s farm opens place it in the middle of their farm. You might like to check out who has space in the middle of their farm where they don’t have plots and where you do. Head home to your farm and the palm or banana tree or whatever tree you chose should be there in the middle or your crop plots. You can do this over and over.

Leave a message board for neighbours to gift you which animals you need and naturally you can return the favour.

Free gifts are a marvel and are good when collecting the Not spoiled, Gifted ribbon. The key here is to leave gifts in your gift box and not remove them. Again you can ask neighbours for gifts you don’t have yet and ensure that you have at least one of a lot of gifts. Having 5 of a particular item does not count towards the total, hence the unique title. Once you collect your ribbon you can put the gifts on your farm or sell them for coins. Your adopted animals will count too.

A difficult ribbon to get is the Tree hugger because you are required to harvest a number of unique trees. You don’t want to buy trees because the key to these hints is to not spend money. Ask your neighbours once again and you can re pay the favour to them.

Believe it or not there are different fertilisers in the FarmVille game and it’s a good idea to know how to use them properly so that you can get the best out of them. Using the fertiliser properly will help you level up faster because you will get the maximum XP.

There are a couple of messages you will receive on your newsfeed about fertilising crops. One published item is a couple of avatars with a basket of puny produce and is a direct request from a neighbour to fertilise their land after they have planted a batch of seeds. The second published item is a bag of Super grow fertiliser and is a statement about the fact that one of your neighbours has just fertilised another neighbours farm and is thanking them for doing so, and basically wouldn’t it be neighbourly if you did the same back for that neighbour.

If you click on the published item with the two avatars and the puny produce you will be taken to that person’s farm and able to fertilise their plots. You will get a message box come up stating that you have fertilised someone’s farm and can another neighbour repay you and so on. You can click accept or not. After returning to your farm there will be a message on the top right hand corner of your farm saying Get your crops fertilized. Click on that and it will ask you to spread the word that your crops need fertilising. If you click accept then a direct request to fertilise your crops will be published with the two avatars and the puny produce and a neighbour may fertilise your crops.

If you go into the Super Grow published item to fertilise their crops it will take you to their farm and there will be 5 bags of fertiliser on the top left hand corner that you will be able to use to fertilise. Click on 5 of their plots avoiding the plots with the sparkles because they have already been fertilised. After you have fertilised their plots a message will come up saying let your neighbours know that you have performed this task and ask you to accept. When you accept it will publish that information and the neighbour may then repay the favour which means bigger and better crops for you and more XP for having fertilised a neighbours crops and also having yours fertilised.

Gaining quick XP is valuable to levelling up therefore going into your neighbours farms on the base of your FarmVille screen and visiting their farms regularly (it will state that their crops are looking puny will you fertilise) will give you lots and lots of XP not to mention coins. It will also ask you to remove weeds and so on which will give you XP. Your neighbours will need to have plots planted and or ploughed to fertilise their property.

People are big on the aesthetics of their farms. They take pride in the way they decorate, beautify and embellish their ornaments whether they are lining up their animals in neat rows or building elaborate shrines with flowers and festive statues. It’s all part of the delight of FarmVille farming.

I’ve noticed playing the game and checking out heaps of other people’s farms that colour and order seems to be more preferred as does themes of things. People have a range of eclectic adornments such as cow print silos, barns and dairy sheds, cow print balloons and milk canisters or Christmas themes, Halloween, Valentines and St Patrick’s Day themes going. Some players have it all higgledy piggledy and just thrown anywhere on their farm but the majority have a certain design or arrangement going on.
Having a layout of particular animals can make an animal pen look really unique. Various colour chickens for example and brown and pink cows. It mostly looks effective if you can have the same number of brown to pink though. Now you can’t buy or gift pink or straight out brown cows you can adopt them from neighbours if they find one wandering on their farm and you have to be quick. It seems that brown is a lot more popular than pink, at least to me anyway so a hint to change a brown cow to a pink cow is this; when you get a brown cow adoption opportunity and you click that you want to adopt it, your farm page will load and a message box will pop up asking you to accept the brown cow. If you have 5 brown cows already and 4 pink and you would like one more pink to complete your decorative ensemble then look up in your browser window and you will see its says Acow_brown×tamp. Change the brown part to pink (or vice versa). The page will re load and your message box will pop up again this time with a pink cow asking you to accept it. Hit accept and that’s it. Pink cow instead.

Getting mystery eggs is a great way to make some extra coins. The golden eggs are highly desirable because they provide the most coins and are harder to get or are they?

Everybody wants the golden eggs. The golden eggs are worth 64 coins compared with white 8 coins, brown 16 coins, and black 32 coins and they are the treasured egg. They all are ready to harvest in 1 day so there is no penalty having golden chickens only in your hen house. The more chickens you have in your coop the more mystery eggs you will get. Take out all of your chickens from your chicken coop. Then return to your coop only the golden chickens. You can put all the other chicken elsewhere on your farm, or sell them or follow the chicken coop clues to gain more coops and house all black, all brown and all white in the individual coops. Make sure when you put the chickens in the coop that you have one golden chicken ready to harvest now. That will mean that all the chickens will be ready to be harvested too. If you have many golden chickens keep one out of the chicken coop that is ready to be harvested immediately and once you collect eggs from your golden chicken coop and find a gold mystery egg you can take them out again and replace them starting with the one you held back that is ready to be harvested. Of course this can then be accomplished with the black, brown and so on if you have many coops then all the better! When you get your golden mystery eggs be sure to share them and your neighbours will be most grateful and will return the favour.

Some of these are simply space users and knick knacks that crowd your farm and use up fruitful space where you could put plots and plant good producing trees and animals. To really make the most of your farm get rid of those unwanted gifts by selling them off. Why store two or three of things? Will you really ever use 4 tool sheds on your farm or 7 gnomes? Get rid of them and use your coins for highly industrious trees and seeds. Some of the animals pay well so check out what is best and keep them. Put your animals in a small section on the edge of your farm. They don’t need to be in a huge pen and they can all go in together. When you get your free trees as gifts plant and harvest them once or twice then they have already made you some coin, then sell them off. Especially sell trees that while may look colourful don’t really do you any favours in terms of making money for your farm. An example of this is the cherry and peach trees. They are always the trees that were first gifted and not very high up. Banana trees, date palms, Olive trees and cashew trees pay well. Ask your neighbours for these by putting signs on your farm and sell the cheap trees. They’re not doing you any real favours.

Mix up your seeds when you plant. Go for high coins and XP. Some crops yield no XP so are a bit of a waste such as raspberries. You should plant them at least once though to score your ribbons but after that go for soybeans and blueberries. Work out your maths with your seeds. What they cost to plant, what you get when you harvest them and the time interval between ripening. If you plant a range of seeds and are able to farm on and off throughout the day you will have something ripening regularly and will make constant coins.

Run down the Facebook newsfeed list until you see a published feed about any mystery egg. When you find them open up the accepting link in new windows, as many as you want. In your FarmVille window open market and buy a chicken coop and then refresh FarmVille. You should have a coop for each premium egg that you accepted. Now you can set them up on your farm.

My only issue with playing FarmVille was the time needed to dedicate to it. I have a two year old who comes first of course as does my partner, my home and pets and yet I still wanted to be part of the game. I didn’t just want to amble along in the game I wanted to prosper. She was asleep! So I used to hide my playing a bit like an addict. The book takes the unknown out of it and is risk free. The great thing about it, is my farm is looking fantastic and the enjoyment level is more because I don’t have to devote sooo much time to it yet don’t miss out either. I always have to consider the time aspect because I do get addicted to games. This has solved that problem for me!
